The prevailing peace in Uvwie may turn into disaster if something is not urgently done by the authority involved as a result of the threat by youths and people of Ugborikoko community over the alleged creation of Ugborijo community from Ugborikoko community by Hon. Ransom Onoyake, the Chairman of Uvwie local government council.
Protest continue to trail the controversial creation of the community as the Councilor, representing Ugborikoko Wared 5 in the local government legislature, Hon. Felix Oghomitse, the Isiriera of Ugboke and Ugborikoko community, Chief Emmanuel Otomewo, High Chief Francis Oghomitse, Comrade Ugbobiri Felix, chairman and other executive members of Ugborikoko Development Committee have all risen in one voice to condemn the creation of Ugborijo Community from the present Ugborikoko Community while urging the council chairman to reverse the decision, vowing to use all legal and political approaches to achieve their aims.
Hon. Felix Oghomitse, Councilor representing Ugborikoko Ward 5, while addressing his people condemned the action of the council chairman, saying that he was not in the House during the debate on the creation of the community, but due process was not followed since the House could not form a quorum, “The said bye law was deliberated on by few numbers of councilors that couldn’t form a quorum and adopted as a valid without following due process.”
While condemning the action of the council chairman, Hon. Felix Oghomitse urged the community leaders to get in touch with the appropriate authority to reverse the exercise in the interest of peace and development of the area.
In a similar vein, Comrade Felix Ugbobiri, chairman and members of Ugborikoko Development Executive Committee in their petition to the Delta State government through the office of the Special Adviser on Community Matter and Peace Resolution, condemned the action of the council chairman, stressing that they voted for him to bring development to the community rather he is bringing disunity and many other attempts to alter the existing structure of Ugborikoko Community by creating Ugborijo community. “Therefore Hon. Ramson Tega should be held responsible for any from of disaster or violence in Ugborikoko community”.
While High Chief Francis Oghomitse, the Isiriera of Ugboroke and Ugborikoko expressed the surprise at the action of the council chairman by allegedly creating another community from their community without even consulting them, adding that, Hon. Onoyake stands to benefit nothing as far as they are concerned”. There is nothing like Ugborijo Community. Ugborijo is part and parcel of Ugborikoko Community”.
He disclosed that if not for their intervention (Unuevworo, Isiriera and Chief Otomewo) the youths of Ugborikoko would have clash with that of the Ugborijo by now.
He explained that when they were growing up as children, Ugborijo river link the Otare river where their people go for final burial rite by washing their clothes in the Ugborijo river signifying the end of burial rite.” He added that the chairman has no reason to create a community rather he just wants to build an empire for himself, but as far as we are concerned Ugborijo is a quarter like any other quarter in Ugborikoko community.
Chief Hon. Emmanuel Otomewo, former Councilor said the council chairman has no right to create a community, stressing that, Ugborikoko community like any other community in Urhobo land has been existing even before the advent of the British to the days of Orerokpe as the head quarter of Western Urhobo and communities have been existing from generation to generation.
He noted that the move is political and illegal, assuring that, they are going to use all necessary legal and political approaches to fight for its reversal “It is demonic to see people wake up and come out with a community.
“We want the council chairman to withdraw it if he refuses, we know our right. We know what to do politically and legally”
Hon. Felix Oghomitse, Executive Committee members of Ugborikoko Development Committee, High Chief Francis Oghomitse and Chief Emmanuel Otomewo called on the Delta State government to call Hon. Ramson Onoyake to order by reversing the creation of Ugborijo community from the present Ugborikoko community, and failure to do so he should be hold responsible for any break down of law and order as a result of any disaster that come from the creation of the Ugborijo community.
