Following the rate of killings of politicians in Urhobo land in recent time, Olorogun (Dr) Taiga Moses, the President General of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) Worldwide, , has warned that nobody should turn Urhoboland into a river of blood, lamenting that, killing of political opponents is not part of Urhobo culture.
Dr Taiga who gave the warning at the backdrop of recent killings of politicians in Urhoboland called on Urhobo politicians, especially and they are getting closer to another round of election to play their politics without killing, violence or bitterness.
He insisted that, nobody should shed the blood of any Urhobo sons or daughter to achieve political ambition, noting that, power belongs to God and no one gets to a position without the knowledge of God.
He stressed that, even though the killings may have political undertones, it was not ascertained that they are politically motivated, and therefore the UPU which represent is not suggesting that their death is politically motivated.
Dr Taiga Moses who insisted that the killings are enough, maintained that, a call to public service is to restore and uplift life and not to take life, saying they are waiting for the police to unravel the perpetrators of those killings.
He recalled that, sometimes in year 2020, a young politician was killed in Asaba in respect of the local government election, and in the same year, another young political was killed in Ughelli South local government area of the state, while another one was also killed in Sapele recently.
The UPU President General, Dr Taiga Moses advised that people should aspire to public office who the desire to serve and not to eliminate opponents to get to oppositions, declaring that, Urhobos are peaceful and loving people and the land should not be turn into river of blood.
