Honourable Solomon Edojah, former member of the Federal House of Representatives has urged Nigerians to blame President Mohammadu Buhari and not Mr. Godswill Akpabio, Minister for Niger Delta on the present woes facing the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), just as he blamed the press for not holding public officers accountable in the affairs of the Commission.
The former federal lawmaker Edojah also took a swipe at state governors for gradually turning local government to appendage of the states by not allowing democracy to strive at state level since local government elections are won by the party controlling the state whether People’s Democratic Party (PDP) or All Progressive Congress (APC).
The former federal lawmaker who was speaking to journalist after an enlarged meeting of the APC held in Kokori, Ethipe East LGA clarified that he is at home to commence registration exercise of the party.
Edojah maintained that, contrary to opinions in some quarters that registration of APC members is targeted at Chief Bola Asiwaju Tinubu, the national leader of the paryy. Ediojah disclosed that Bola Tinubu is his boss and they have been together right form the time of Social Democratic Party (SDP) and as such the registration is not targeted at Tinubu any leader of the party.
Ediojah explained that NDDC is a product of politics and as such it is inappropriate to accuse President Buhari of playing politics with the Commission, stressing that, in his personal capacity he would prefer that the Board by confirmed and screened by the National Assembly that has been inaugurated.
He exonerated Chief Godswill Akpabio, Minister for Niger Delta Region of any manipulation of the NDDC but put the blame on Buhari who has said appointed him because he believes he is capable of running the Board that is why he allowed him to bring it under his ministry from the presidency.
Edojah also accused the media of not following up on the NDDC and Nigerians whose 90 percent are docile, so it is the press who should do the follow up “whether the interim committee is spending the Commission money based on its budget or not, whether the money budgeted for projects in Kokori as an oil producing area is spent on projects or diverted, it is the duty of the press and not the people, and if the press is not doing that, it means it is lazy or corrupt.”
Edojah said if he has his way no governor who bastardize the local government system in his state will be allowed to go to the Senate” If the president has bacterized the Senate would they want to go there? So, they should allow democracy to strive at the local government level.
