Flora Alatan of Delta State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, has challenged Christian women especially mothers to reach out financially, morally, and spiritually to the girl child in society.
The commissioner gave this mandate while receiving delegates of the Women’s Wing Christian Association of Nigeria led by a former Women Affairs commissioner in the person of Rev. Mrs. Omatsola Williams who paid Flora Alatan a courtesy visit in her office in Asaba.
Mrs. Flora Alatan in response to an earlier speech pointed out that it was the wish of her ministry to partner with WOWICAN saying that with all the sufferings mothers and girls faced during this COVID-19 era of rape and domestic violence the ministry couldn’t reach out to the grassroot on its own.”
Flora Alatan commended the women for being survivors of the COVID-19 pandemic which had eaten deep into society and promised of more empowerment programmes for indigent women in the state. She assured them of taking into knowledge 5 blocs of the Association when disbursing the next tranche of empowerment forms.
Flora pointed out how the white-collar job phase was gradually fizzing out and encouraged the women to help their girl children learn a skill alongside being educated as this was all in cycle with the repetition of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in providing wealth creation for all Deltan’s.
The WOWICAN Chairperson, Pastor Mrs. Anne Ifadah who spoke earlier, thanked the Commissioner for remembering them in the empowerment programme and prayed such assistance wouldn’t cease as this would enable women to become independent especially in these trying times.
Mrs. Ifadah who used the opportunity to congratulate Flora Alatan on her appointment pointed out how WOWICAN being the largest faith-based women group in Delta, desire to partner with the ministry to help promote the causes of women in the state especially the grassroots.
