IFEANYI OKOWA REAFFIRMS BAN ON POLITICAL CAMPAIGNS AHEAD OF 2023

Ahead of 2023 general elections, The Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa has again reaffirmed the ban on political campaigns, urging aspirants not to distract the focus of governance.

Ifeanyi Okowa who was represented by the Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Sen. Apostle Sylvanus Okorote, gave the directive during the unveiling of the Church-to-Church Voters Sensitization Campaign Programme in Asaba, the state capital.

Ifeanyi Okowa said the decision was to enhance peace, orderliness and avoid distraction to governance in the state and also to work in line with the INEC guidelines.

He pointed out that ban on political campaigns has not been lifted in the state, therefore politicians should not campaign for any aspirant but focus on voter’s registration by INEC.

According to the Chairman of CAN “many groups are springing up with political programmes, therefore, they should be careful of their activities as the Christian body is watching.

He said that CAN would not hesitate to sanction any group that errs.

While admonishing Christians to participate in the political process, he said that as Christians they have dual citizenship and should use their earthly citizenship to promote the kingdom of God.

He said being a Christian, place on them the Civic responsibility of having their voter’s card and utilizing their franchise to make righteousness succeed in the Government House and other elective offices.

Earlier, the Convener of Christian Political Leaders forum (CPLF), Rt. Hon Funkekeme Solomon, cleared the misconception of politics amongst Christians.

The Convener advised Christians not leave the field of politics; rather they should come into it and chased every one with evil intention.

He said there was no offence if they embrace politics as that was the only way to right the wrongs of the bad leaders and help Deltans achieve those things they want
