Dr Ifeanyi Okowa again re-echoed the need for upcoming politicians to emulate the unbroken bond of unity existing among members of James Ibori Political structure, making it possible for political power to rotate within the family since 1999 and still counting.
The SMART GOVERNOR who is a long-standing political brother and associate of Chief James Ibori, described him as a leader with uncommon pedigree, solid strength of character, incredible foresight and multifaceted political wealth of experience.
“We are gathered here today to celebrate our leader, an elder statesman and a political icon.
“It is therefore very important that the political family bond initiated and perfectly controlled by Leader Ibori remains intact, unbroken and I am pretty sure it will continue to produce more and more credible leaders; men, women and youths within and outside the state.
“He laid the foundation and went further to give good example of how to constitute an all-inclusive political and leadership structure that has persisted in terms of socioeconomic transformation of the state; from Ibori to our senior brother, His Excellency Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan and my humbleself.
“This enviable bond of friendship, solid political and leadership bond must be nourished steadily and kept in watertight compartment such that it would gradually go round the three Senatorial districts for the good of all Deltans and development of the state and beyond.
“Our loyalty to Leader Ibori is unwavering and very solid. I urge upcoming politicians and those already in the system to emulate the uninterrupted trend as we continue to work together to keep the political family stronger, results oriented in terms of good governance, accountability to the people and positive desire to serve from one level to another.
“The unity of Nigeria is non-negotiable but we must continue to press for resource control or a good measure of it, just as leader James Ibori did for the people of the Niger Delta region during his tenure as governor of our great state, and will continue to do as an elder statesman, going forward.
“He championed the advocacy and intense lobby for resource control and by the grace of God he will continue to be one of the leading voices for our people in the South-South region and by extention Nigeria.
“I am appealing to members of our political family headed by Chief James Ibori to attract development to Delta State irrespective of political affiliations and partisan interest.
We must not allow politics to separate us from the bond of friendship initiated by our amiable leader.
“I thank comrade Ovuzorie Macaulay for organising this occasion to honour our Leader,” Okowa said.
Former Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomole corroborated Gov Okowa’s testimony by describing Chief Ibori as an astute political leader and a brave Nigerian with uncommon wisdom and zeal to better the socioeconomic fortunes of his people.
“Ibori is a brave man who during his tenure as governor and prime member of the party in power fought for resource control and development of the Niger Delta region.
“My Dear Comrade brother, Ovuzorie Macaulay has demonstrated that loyalty is a continuous process which must be serviced from to time. He exhibited same loyalty to me as NLC President some years ago. He is a reliable fellow and a dogged one for that matter.
“He served during my time as NLC National President, and as Delta NLC Chairman Comrade Macaulay was always there for me. He is a man to be trusted and I shall continue to appreciate and thank him for who he is,” the former comrade governor added.
Earlier in his welcome address, Comrade Ovuzorie Macaulay said Chief Ibori, it was, who raised him from obscurity to political relevance, not minding his numerous anti government activities as a unionist and Chairman of NLC in the state.
The occasion was chaired by former Chief of Denfence Staff, General Alenxander Ogomudia.
