Mudiagga Enajemo, a former Nigeria fashion designer, popularly known as Mudi Africa has disclosed that Nigeria is a big market for fashion because of the population, purchasing power and the people like to look good, stressing that, fashion is evolving in Nigeria.
Speaking with newsmen recently, Mudi Africa noted that it has not been easy when you are working in an environment where there is hostility, adding that, there is no capital, structure, electricity and you have to battle with so many issues.
According to Mudi, “There are issues of roads, insecurity. You have to manage your staff and create designs. It requires extra efforts to sustain the business in this environment.
When I look back once in a while, I give credit to God and myself” Mudi added.
Speaking further Mudi said, “I have sustained the tempo in the Nigeria fashion industry through hard work, above all, the passion for what am doing and I do it with so much zeal, determination and believing in myself.”
We don’t have the textile industries in Nigeria. The few textile industries that are available are almost running at a loss because they have to provide their own electricity to sustain the production.
The issue of energy alone is affection the production of the few local textile industries. Also, the electricity issue is affecting the cost of the fabric.
We can’t run away from the Nigeria fabrics. We still have to make use of our fabrics because they are easily available.
Commenting on his achievements, Mudi Africa said interms of taking his brand outside Nigeria, it is an achievement adding: “With all sense of humility, I am the first Nigerian fashion designer to have outlets outside Nigeria
I have five shops outside Nigeria and I did all that on a personal effort. There is no bank loan and that alone is an achievement for me knowing where I coming from.”
His words: “The other achievement is that this structure is the first and the finest purpose built fashion house in Africa and it was televised by Africa Magic.
In fact, Africa Magic did a documentary on the structure of Mudi Africa.”
“There are other achievements I will not mention. I have a street called “Mudi Lane” that was named after my brand and that is an achievement.
I give God all the glory for all these achievements.
