In my capacity, Comr. Umukoro Efemena as the member representing NYCN in the State Community Policing Committee.
I spoke on the topic” NON-VIOLATIONS OF HUMAN RIGHTS A TOOL TO SUCCESSFUL AND SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY POLICING.
I had the opportunity to critically x-ray the above topic were I emphasized that the roles and duties of these community police should be duly outlined to them so as to avoid a situation where duties that was not assigned to them is being performed, which in most cases leads to the violation of human rights of citizens.
Umukoro Efemena also spoke on the need of human right activists to not see activism as a job or means of livelihood since there’s no job or employment in our society but as a selfless service to humanity and a means of speaking out in the face of injustice, without any fear or favor.
Conclusively, I highlighted that community youth leaders should also avoid wadding into the settlement of criminal cases, fraud and other social crime and cases of the law, instead they should collaborate with the police, in providing useful information and not standing in the place of the judiciary or the police.
May I quickly use this medium to appreciate the management of DRTV, for inviting me as a guest and also providing time to x-ray the above topic.
I must confess, it was indeed a refreshing moment.
Conference for the actualization of human rights.
Freedom from fear!!!
