The NUJ Ughelli Chapel has glared at what it described as nonchalant attitude of the Delta State Government towards the plights of flood victims across the state.
The Chapel in a communique issued at the end if its monthly meeting said millions of people from flood ravaged communities in the state has been displaced from their homes and are facing untold hardship without any form of intervention from the state government.
The communique which was signed by the acting chairman, Comrade Sunday Appah and the Secretary Comr. Mattias Ogbagah respectively accused the state government of taking advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic to turn deaf ears towards the plights of the people.
The communique reads, “Setting up of a committee on flood without action to immediately give helping hand to the flood victims is totally unacceptable and this could pose serious threat to lives and properties of the victims.”
This is the time that the people affected by the flood needs the presence of the state government most, and little attention from the government will no doubt change the fortunes of the victims by providing isolation IDP centers and ensuring that their and properties are safe
