The vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, FUPRE, Effurun Delta State, Professor Akpofure Rim-Rukeh has appealed to the national assembly on the inclusion of Federal University of Petroleum Resources, FUPRE in the Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB.
Rim-Rukeh has also assured the lower chamber of FUPRE’s readiness to train manpower for other universities across the county if given its rightful place and included in the Petroleum Industry Bill, that it will enhance manpower development, research and training.
Speaking recently during the House of Representatives Adhoc Committee on Petroleum Industry Bill, Prof. Rim-Rukeh stated that FURPE is the only University mandated by an act of the Nation Assembly to train Nigerians for the middle and higher level of manpower for the oil and gas industry.
He added that the inclusion of the acronym FUPRE to the Petroleum Industrial Bill is very germane and key to the growth to the oil and gas industry.
Rim-Rukeh appealed that the university be given its due place for management, saying that this will go a long way in saving a lot of foreign reserved.
Speaking further, Rim-Rukeh said, “In the past sixty years, Nigeria has depended highly on sending students and workers to foreign agencies abroad for training, but I will assure you that Federal University of Petroleum Resources is prepared to take up this challenge if included in the PIB.
“If both Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) and the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FURE) are given its due place in the bill, the institutions will take up the challenge in terms of research, development and training of manpower for other Universities in Nigeria.”
