Task Force also impounded several vehicles whose drivers drove against the traffic. They were all prosecuted and fined by a Mobile Court presided over by Chief Magistrate E.A. Odjugo.

The three abattoirs sealed by the Task Force would remain closed until they improve on the sanitary conditions of the environment where they operate.

The three slaughters, slabs temporarily sealed by the Uvwie Task Force on Environment and Traffic Control are located on Sapele Road, PTI Junction along Osubi road as well as the abattoir near Ebrumede Roundabout close to the Police Officers Wives Shops, Effurun.

They are to remain sealed until they meet the required sanitary standards according to the sanitation laws of Uvwie Local Government.

Chief Magistrate EA Odjugo who presided over the Mobile Court, fined the operators of the three slaughter slabs including one of them caught using tyres to roast meat for consumption.

The Uvwie Task Force on Environment and Traffic control also apprehended several vehicles driving against the traffic at PTI Junction and other routes in the locality.

The owners of the impounded vehicles including private and commercial as well as PSP trucks were arraigned before the Mobile Court and made to pay the statutory fines.

Speaking shortly after the raid on abattoirs in parts of Uvwie, the Chairman of the Task Force, Mr Isaac Itobi described that the operation as successful and added that the raid was to ensure that the slaughter slabs meet set standards.

Mr Isaac Itobi also advised vehicle operators in Uvwie to obey traffic rules in order not to run foul of the law.

The head of Environment and Secretary of the Task Force, Mrs Mary Akpede said the illegal slaughter slabs would remain closed till their sanitary conditions improved.

The raid by the Task Force on Environment and Traffic Control continues, he said.
