The Udu Concerned Citizen, is a social Political Pressure Group of grassroots leaders have called on the Executive Governor of Delta State.
His Excellency Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa as a of public importance to warn those external forces who always interfere in the choice of leaders to stay away from the politics of Udu so as to allow leaders choose their own Council Chairman and councilors to effectively and positively meet the general interest of the people.
A statement signed by Comrade Paul Akuobrisi, Chairman of the group and Peter Okpubeku, Secretary says, Udu people cannot be slaves to outsiders always, stressing that on leader determines who should be a house of Assemble member, chairman or councilor etc, of any local government council outside Udu yet leaders from other places are harassing the sensibilities of our people with impunity by foisting unpopular candidates on the people from time to time.
The group expressed dismay with the overbearing attitude of Hon. Michael Diden, Chairman of DESOPADEC in the affairs of Udu stressing that only Udu people vote and determine winners during general elections and that any extraneous interference as in the instance of the council election can only be counterproductive.
“The interference of outside forces on our council election most especially always spell doom for the performance of the PDP in general elections. It is better the state government respect the opinion of Udu leaders on who their council chairman should be instead of allowing the area to be invaded by external forces that have no regard for the leaders.
Who are the leaders that resisted the incumbent council chairman in his own ward in the 2019 general polls so much so that they couldn’t deliver on any of the elections if not the ordinary folks on the area?
That presupposes that the man is not popular and cannot be trusted with the position any further”, the group declared.
The group therefore warned that those interest group from outside Udu who are fond of imposing unpopular candidates on Udu should stop forthcoming council elections and subsequent elections so Udu can make their choice and bear the consequences of their preferences at the end of the day.
