The lockdown order by the Delta State Government started yesterday 1st April 2020 prior to the lockdown we received many messages from Youth leaders across our Local Government Area on the need for us to ensure overzealous Security Agents do not take undue advantage of the directives to start harassing our people.
As early as 5.30am UPU Youthwing Executives together with team of Human Rights Activist who are indigenes of nearby communities to Observe the show of Force (SF) by security agents. The Nigeria Army, Nigeria Police, Vigilante Group, Anti Cult, Medical, Conference of Actualization of Human Rights leaders and UPU Youthwing Executive were among those who undertook the exercise …
We patrolled the entire Abraka community which I must commend the indigenes of Abraka community for being one of the most Peaceful and Law-abiding communities we visited as everyone obeyed the Order…
We proceeded to Eku Market where little business activities was seen but on sighting the team of Operative, they ran and the Market master was invited to the station for Questioning and released immediately hence he can go back to extend the message to the traders. Thereafter the Market was shut down. No human Rights was abused as the Officers were very friendly as they took the opportunity to sensitize the people on the need to remain at home.
Today 2 April 2020, UPU Youthwing executive received a call from an eye witness in warri around Ogbangue community, by Bridge-View Hotel along Ogunu Bridge warri… That Military men on patrol saw group of Itshekiri young men sitting outside their home and shot Live bullet at them killing a Young man at the point… Immediately they ran away from the area.
Calls to the CO in charge of the Area was not answered as at the time of writing this report. The UPU Youthwing use this medium to sound a warning to overzealous officers to stay off Delta Central District because we wouldn’t take any abuse of Human Rights easily with anybody no matter how highly placed they might be.
We are not in War zone, so we don’t expect the Military to start using Force on citizens. It is so sad that Coward Military men who couldn’t chase out Arm herdsmen who invaded our community at Agadama and environs in Uwheru kingdom became so bold over night to confront unarmed Itshekiri Youths.
Despite, we do not have the powers to speak for them. The UPU Youthwing is using the case of Ogbwangue as a Case of Reference and warn that the Military Authorities should ensure overzealous officers aren’t sent to our area as we are peace loving people but we wouldn’t fold our hands to see any of our people being abused or killed.
The UPU Youthwing call on Urhobo Youths Worldwide to remain calm and Law abiding this period. We understand the hardship that comes with this directive but we must know that despite as drastic as this directive might be, its for our own good… We should obey the order and equally report any cause of abuse to our various listed numbers.
The UPU Youthwing equally wish to thank the Local Government Chairperson of Ethiope East LGA Chief Mrs Faith Majemite and other LGA in Delta Central for making Schools available for petty food and water sellers to help reduce the suffering of our people .
It was timely and I must appreciate her and other LGA who did same. I wouldn’t end this note without thanking the Abraka Divisional Police Officer CSP Hassan Jimoh Hassan who used his personal money to encourage Personnel who took part in the Exercise yesterday. May God richly bless you all. (Amen)
God bless Delta Central
God bless Nigeria
