UPU Youthwing (IGHELLE RE URHOBO) leaders ably led by activist Kelly Efemena Umukoro received with rude shock amidst sadness the killings of our people and several others injured by marauding Fulani headers, he describes the killing as barbaric, senseless, uncivilized and nothing to be proud of.
It was purportedly reported by Community leaders who received the UPU Youthwing President that the assault and mayhem of our people by these blood thirsty Fulani headers was assisted by men wearing camouflage believed to be personnel of JTF of the Nigerian Army from Bomadi
It should be noted that Fulani herdsmen attack on Urhobo people is gradually becoming a daily routine Urhobo communities of Agadama, Ohorho, Agbarho Abraka, Uwheru and environ
It is on this note we hereby call on all local government authorities in Urhobo land to put into use the security votes accrued to their various offices to ensure total safety of life and properties in their domain.
And we also urge the Members of the Delta State House of Assembly to push the Anti Open grazing bill into law which will put a total end to this daily fuse of Fulani herdsmen attacks, we also call on the Delta State Government and the Federal government to rise up to the challenges of insecurity bedeviling our various Urhobo communities, Delta State and Nigeria at large because it is now a known fact that our people no longer sleep with eyes closed.
UPU YOUTHWING PRESIDENT VISIT OF THE AFFECTED COMMUNITIES
To get on the spot assessment of the incident, the UPU Youthwing President Activist Umukoro accompanied by other Urhobo Youths Leaders visited the affected communities of Agadama, Ohorho and Uwheru community respectively, where he met the Agadama community youths Chairman Mr Sunday Iniovogoma who was accompanied by Sunny O Utuedor.
Umukoro sympathized with the communities and assured the leaders present that an ‘attack on Agadama or any other Urhobo community is an attack to the entire Urhobo youths and would not be treated with kid gloves’
Umukoro in a closed-door meeting with the Delta State Commissioner of Police Mr Hafiz M Inuwa discussed extensively on security, (Fulani Herdsmen and cult clashes) Defense of Human Rights within the Urhobo Nation and Delta State.
The CP assured the UPU youthwing president that he’s a disciplinarian and that police men under his command would not be allowed to abuse Human Rights in the state and also urge the Urhobo youths leader to ensure that citizens also see the police as their friends , give them quick information which will help them work effectively .. The police boss use the occasion to condole with the affected communities.
In as much as we’re pained, We call on our people to remain calm, Law abiding and be vigilant. We advised them not to take LAWS into their hands as the Leadership of the UPU YOUTHWING Is in touch with various Security agent and relevant stakeholders, to ensure this invasion of our communities doesn’t repeat itself again.
The youth leader thanked the Commissioner of police Hafiz M. Inuwa , Major AA Jarma and the Governor of Delta State Sen Ifeanyi Okowa for their swift respond which prevented the intruder from invading deep into our community before they were repelled by the gallant Nigeria Police Officers led by their Area Commander James Moses.
The Urhobo people are known for welcoming strangers but we wouldn’t tolerate, attack from the same strangers who we give our houses food and water.
Suffice to say that if the Federal Government and State Government fails to put an end to these incessant killing of Urhobo people in Urhobo land by these marauding Fulani herdsmen, WE WISH TO STATE CATEGORICALLY THAT WE THE URHOBO YOUTHS HAVE THE CAPACITY TO STOP THEM IF THE NEED ARISES .
Our simplicity should not be taken for stupidity Umukoro averred.
ACTIVIST EFEMENA KELLY UMUKORO
PRESIDENT, UPU YOUTHWING WORLDWIDE.
