Urhobo Sons And Daughters Making Urhobo Ovu-Ovo A Reality – Eyela Efe Kevin

Urhobo

Urhobo: Apparently We must bear in mind that urhobo is a great nation comprising of various kingdoms or clans with their respective traditional rulers or Okakuros and notably almost all the clans if not all speaks their own distinctive and Unique pattern of the Urhobo language which sometimes accounts for a little linguistical Differentiation but the true fact still remains that we are one in the real sense as we share same historical development,Dietary patterns and paramountly same method And Universally accepted pattern of Dressing.

Over the years so many a factor has resulted to the failure of the Urhobo Ovu-Ovo institution which no doubts form part and parcel of the bedrock upon which the urhobo nation is based but retrospectively.

I shall use this opportunity to outline some recommendations on how the Ovu-Ovo of a custom can be achieved greatly in urhobo land even though this medium would not allow me to recount all we really need to do as a tribe…Stated Below are my recommendations which are prone to corrections…

A CALL FOR A DAY OF URHOBO NATIONAL UNITY OR TOWN HALL MEETING

First and foremost the urhobo nation needs to put aside that which has or whatever has happened in the past especially pertaining to the apex body that is Urhobo Progress Union(UPU) and make efforts to refine the old pattern of consciousness with the view of developing a new possible urhobo that would be void of grudges, malices, abrupt misunderstandings, etc…

If possible a town hall meeting should be hosted where the entire urhobo nation will gather and form a conglomeration of urhobo communities drawn from the diverse kingdoms and clans in the land let them gather under one roof with the sole aim of unifying and advancing oneness in urhobo land…there all forms of misunderstandings and quarrels of the past can be settled…

PUT ASIDE ATTITUDE OF SELFISHNESS, HATRED AND THE LET PULL HIM DOWN SYNDROME IN URHOBO NATION…

Secondly There are certain behavioral attributes that are common and nurtured by almost all urhobo people and they include the syndrome of “let pull him down“ A situation where two urhobos will be working in a place and the one is trying to pull the other down so he can climax his/her position or a situation whereby an urhobo son or daughter will be progressing politically, socially or even economically and his fellow urhobo is working round the clock just to pull him down so he can become an object of mockery or shame but the question what do we really stand to gain by doing this to a brother…

So to build a stronger Urhobo Ovuovo there is the need to do away with such behavior or practices even including Self-Interest which is naturally inherent in almost every urhobo if non b make e non b another person it has been gain strength to the extent that some sell out the interest of the entire urhobo nation in exchange for the personal benefits and rewards they will get in return that’s some urhobo men are willing to nurture their own personal interests which is self at the detriment of others including that cherished by the urhobo nation as a whole.

Then the issue of greed whereby an individual consciously and intentionally keeps what belong to everyone for them and their family especially our leaders even this sometimes is displayed when some go to a public Event or social gathering and finally the kind natural Hatred for each other whereby your senior colleague at workplace or probably you tell your boss you are from Urhobo and instead of him to be joyous at the same time glad he suddenly turns back on you and begin to join forces to fight and maltreat you again etc….Now what I mine trying to say in essence Urhobo Ovu ovo can flourish amidst of this attributes or behaviors hence need to drop down by the road side…

WIDESPREAD AND MORE OFTEN SPEAKING OF THE URHOBO LANGUAGE AT ALL TIMES

Thirdly and linguistically there is the need for every urhobo son and daughter to take pride in the speaking and widespread of the urhobo land as it is the very number one(1) element of unity and identity available to us as people of urhobo nation…

All this I don’t care attitudes of parents at the same time children toward the advancement of the urhobo language should be put beside us and let everyone begin to pride in the speaking of the urhobo language..

No issue of na me go school pass or trying to claim civilization which in true sense is to be derived first from your identification with your immediate society…Then still on the issue of language a lot of people are very formed of this character of replying their brothers or sisters from urhobo with English Language whenever they speak to them probably to discredit the speaker or hide away from the fact they are from urhobo which is very very unwise unacceptable and foolish of them…

Finally we should desist from the notion of prioritizing other Languages over the urhobo language for instances an urhobo can confidently buy Korea or India to Films and novels watch/read for a full day sometimes even one week but cannot spend his penny to get an urhobo film or book which is produced basically to promote the urhobo norms, values, cultures and apparently the urhobo language…All of these attributes needs to be stopped in totality for urhobo ovu ovo to come to play in urhobo nation…

LET’S PROMOTE URHOBO AND BE OUR BROTHER’S KEEPERS ALWAYS…

Fourthly as an urhobo man that you are you are supposed to have a natural instincts of care, concern and love for your brother and the single feeling promoting your fellow urhobos interests always with regards to their sources of livelihood or income that is the business they do, in their career whether entertainment, professional, administrative or even clerical should be well enshrined into you…etc we should love whatever our brother is doing over the other varieties or options available in the market…

Let encourage and help each other to grow in all facets of life’s endeavors…Don’t become bold and confident buying something from a shop which is owned by an Hausa man that is directly opposite the shop and market place of your own urhobo brother who even sells same thing you are buying from the Hausa’s man shop In a nutshell value your brother, shield him from danger and take pride in patronizing or promoting him in whatever he does for a living…

URHOBO LEADERS AND POLITICIANS NEEDS TO RAISE SUCCESSORS…

The attitude of some of our urhobo politicians and leaders toward their boys and followers are uncalled and not encouraging at all as some of them at the age of 80years are still fighting tooth and nail to gain political appointments and offices while their boys who are serving them continues to follow and feeds from the food that falls from the table so the big question is this when will the concept of not too young to rule come to play in urhobo because we the boys are selling the mandates of our esteemed leaders with the mindset that we are apprentices and definitely we shall one day be empowered and giving freedom haven shown undoubted loyalty and service to our principals but I’m afraid to say this that it looks like the hopes and aspirations of the urhobo youths are about to scattered as the bosses of some grow old and dies off in offices without any tangible legacies for the boys…

So many urhobo youths today are frustrated,Obfuscated and restive with no mean of livelihood to depend as a result of neglects from politicians who they’ve served wholeheartedly and without blemish….

Therefore Urhobo leaders and politicians needs to start changing their orientation toward their followers and boys…

They should be concerned now with how to grown and project them into the political world as their successors not just mere successors but people who will show a true reflection and remembrance of them in the larger society…

Imagine the northerners and their doctrines they’ve raised a lot of young leaders to succeed them as the youngest senator in the Nigeria senate as we all know is from The north so what are we really doing in urhobo land is it not a pity that if we can find a young leader in urhobo land today they are not more than 20 and most of them are even over 35yrs in age already…Our leaders we need boys of 25 30 and 32yrs to mount offices both in Urhobo Nation and Government House…

Make ona non Dey empower boys with okadas and grinding machines Abi mak almost all the urhobo boys begin dey ride Okada and grind pepper for market Nah God go forbid am for us ooo in Jesus Name Amen…So I am passionately appealing to all urhobo leaders and politicians to desist from all manner of selfishness, greed also self-centeredness and start empowering boys with human capital initiatives or development even entrepreneurial and paramountly build them to succeeds and takeover the political systems/terrains…

ALL OTHER URHOBO ORGANIZATIONS AND SOCIAL CLUBS SHOULD LIASE WITH THE APEX BODY TO FOSTER PEACE AND PROGRESS…

From a close observation of the urhobo society today you will find out that so many notable and well to do urhobo sons and daughters find it more convenient and comfortable to be in social clubs and other urhobo oriented organizations than being aligned with the urhobo progress Union and notably these social clubs were formed initially to serve as a key factor for the central and the apex body to grow but today the opposite is the case as the operation of these social clubs in urhobo nation is now gradually becoming a barrier and a catalyst for the central body not hold which ought not to be so at all as they are so supposed to work pari pasu also hand in hand to foster peace and development in urhobo nation…It has even gotten to the extent that some social clubs feels they’ve become so rich and enormous to Alienate themselves with the UPU body what a pity on their part….so in a nutshell all form of existing social and political clubs or organizations that urhobo origin must falls under the jurisdiction and set goals of the Apex body Urhobo Progress Union(UPU)

URHOBO CLERGYMEN AND PRIESTS SHOULD BE PRO-ACTIVE

The duty of a clergy is to pray to God Almighty on behalf of his people while the priest or Igbe worshipper is to appease the gods of the land to prevent their wrath upon members of the community and also to pour out libations and do incantations to attract the blessings of the gods on us the people but today the opposite is the case as urhobo clergies who are supposed to be fervently praying for all the people of urhobo nation are gradually chasing after what is packed in an envelope and what they stands to benefit on daily basis and even the priests and princesses are more concerned in causing great havocs in the society as they are now out in search of yahoo boys to perform chants and medicine for so they might be paid wholesomely, others use their mystical power to in-cure untimely death and sicknesses on people just because of a mere price tag fulfilled or  paid by their sure client but was it originally so in the past no I repeat no…

The clergies and priests of old pleads on behalf of the people and served basically as agents for enforcing mortality and orderliness in the urhobo nation…I therefore urge urhobo clergymen to constitute their alter of prayer while the priests invoke more of the power of the gods of urhoboland to save us always…

THE NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND LIFE IS LIVED UPON DUALITY

In order to achieve unity within the urhobo nation or environment, We have to transcend the human inclination toward duality because in every human being there’s a natural disposition to process life in dualism and look at things as black and white, this or that. Even the gateways through which we perceive our world are in pairs, outside the tongue forming the sensitive part of the body We have two ears, two eyes, two nostrils, and pairs of appendages by which to touch, move around in, or manipulate our environment.

The Universe itself seems to be set up on a system that relies on cause and effect, in and out, front and back, visible and invisible.

It’s this system of belief that makes way for drama in life in the real sense and failure to understand it sometimes account for a big problem in the society…

So prior to this claim urhobo nation need to develop this mindset that the prosperity or progress of one person is greatly hinged on the next man or in the other way round they need to understand that there is someone outside there who needs them to grow and make it in life so just as life is based on duality let’ us urhobos know that  there is a fellow urhobo that has been naturally attached to us or you to help to grow and make progress in life hence let’s live in pairs in urhobo nation in such a way that the prosperity of one person will be the turning point or progress of another…

A life that is simply based on the analysis of live and let’s live that is when you are blessed by the God or gods of urhobo land do well to spread your wealth to members of your family, community, clan or Kingdom.Do not conclude that the wealth is for you alone or probably you are the only one in the world but rather know life is lived upon the concept of pairing or dualism and don’t be surprised that certain persons progress and destinies in the urhobo nation has been tied to your prosperity and wealth and if you fail to help them then you have breached the law of natural pairing or duality of life…

Conclusively let’s love one another, let’s pray for one another, let’s pray for urhobo nation and its leaders including politicians, let’s promote and take pride in the urhobo culture and traditions because urhobo ovuovo non b for mouth ooo
