Kelly Umukoro

UPU Youthwing worldwide President, Kelly Umukoro in a DRTV Warri programme title Good morning Delta where he spoke extensively on the topic- ‘Women as a Real Catalyst for Development in the Agro- Economy of Nigeria’.

It was an educative and interactive program as Kelly Umukoro was able to x-ray the importance, roles and value of women in Agriculture in Nigeria and the reason why women should be encouraged by government and other related institution to continue in the agro sector.

According to Kelly Umukoro a nation that wishes to succeed must first encourage Agriculture and makes the younger ones see it as a profession and a meaningful job and not seeing farming as Suffering or odd job.

According to Agricultural scientist that made a search in 1993. It was discovered that 90% of women in the rural area engage in farming. 58% of same women engage only in Crop while 48% engage in Livestock farming and crops while 4% are left out.

While women are passionate in farming, they do not have access to Land and soft loan which can make them get modern implement or tools that will enable them go into Commerical farming.

If women are given the needed support the male folds enjoyce women would achieve greatness and there wouldn’t be food shortage in our society.

Some culture doesn’t benefit women to own a Land and even if they own a Land the men determine was kind of farming takes place in the land. If women are given the opportunity to be deceptive it will help in increasing their morale for the job.

Insecurity has also reduced the zeal for farming as Fulani herdsmen and farmer clash has discouraged so many farmers from farming due to fear of the unknown or possible attack from this blood tasting Herdmen but if Government can look into this insecurity complain and have it solved.

Many farmers who stopped farming would be encouraged to go back to the bushes to cultivate which would increase the income of the State, provide sufficient food for the nation and also provide job employment for labourer.

“Indeed, I wish to thank the Management of DRTV Warri for having me on the Program”.

“I equally wish to use this medium to congratulate his Excellency Dr Ifeanyi Okowa on his 5th Year in Office as Executive Governor of Delta State… Good is a Process, better is Cool but by his grace the best is yet to come!

It was indeed an interesting program today and despite being the guest of the program I also learnt
