FG has approved the donation of ₦5 billion to victims of the devastating fire that razed parts of Singer Market in Kano State.
Vice President Kashim Shettima announced the FG intervention during a sympathy visit to the affected traders, describing the incident as a major economic setback not only for Kano but for the country at large. He said the financial support is aimed at helping victims rebuild their businesses. This support will help them return to normal commercial activities as quickly as possible.
Singer Market, one of the busiest commercial hubs in Kano, was engulfed by fire, destroying goods and properties reportedly worth billions of naira. Thousands of traders were affected, with many losing their entire means of livelihood.
According to the Vice President, the FG gesture reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to supporting citizens in times of hardship. He also assured that the Federal Government would continue working with state authorities to prevent similar disasters in the future.
The incident has once again raised concerns about fire safety standards in major Nigerian markets. Traders and stakeholders are calling for improved emergency response systems. They also demand better infrastructure to reduce future risks.
