AGOFURE ONORIODE CELEBRATES GRADUATION OF DRIVERS

Agofure Onoriode celebrates the graduation of 51 Chief Drivers. Discover the training program’s impact and future benefits.

The Delta State Directorate of Transport has graduated 51 Chief Drivers/Operatives for the 2024/2025 training programme. This marks the total number of graduates as 1,158 students since inception as Mr Agofure Onoriode commended them.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony held at Prof. Chike Edozien Secretariat, Asaba, the Honourable Commissioner for Transport Mr. Agofure Onoriode commended the graduates for their commitment and determination. They completed their six-month Training Programme despite the high cost of transportation due to the removal of fuel subsidies.

Mr Agofure Onoriode explained that the programme was designed to train Chief Drivers/Operatives on salary Grade Level 07. This training enables them to qualify for lateral conversion to the Works Superintendent Cadre. The programme is also meant to equip participants with the skill to face anticipated challenges in their next level.

The commissioner disclosed that since the program began, batches of drivers have graduated in different sessions. There were 39 graduates in 2006/2007. The number increased to 85 in 2008/2009, followed by 96 in 2009/2010. It peaked at 145 in 2010/2011. In 2021/2022, there were 102 graduates. The latest session in 2024/2025 saw 51 graduates.

The commissioner also commended the Governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori for his commitment to the drivers welfare. He disclosed that the Governor recently approved Capacity Building for Drivers/Mechanic in the State Public Service. This will soon be executed.

In an address by the Overall Best Graduating Student, Mr. Aaron Ekarume described the graduation as a moment he will cherish. He will hold it dear for the rest of his life. He dedicated his success to his family and friends. He said that the award bears not only his name but also their love and support.

Mr Ekarume thanked the Commissioner for Transport. He also expressed gratitude to the school director, Engineer Okotete Basil, the school lecturers, and his fellow graduates. Their leadership and guidance led to discipline, integrity, and self-belief.

He urged the fellow graduates to view excellence not as a destination, but as a habit. Just as vehicles must keep moving to reach their destination, And encouraged them to keep growing and keep pushing forward.

The event ended with congratulations to the graduating class of the year 2025.
