LOCAL CONTENT: STRENGTHENING NIGERIA’S ECONOMY

LOCAL CONTENT COMMITTEE OVERSIGHT VISIT TO NCDMB

Explore the importance of local content in the Oil and Gas Industry and its impact on Nigerian economic opportunities.

As the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Nigerian Local Content, I had the honour of leading my Distinguished Colleagues. They are members of the committee, and focusing on local content was a significant part of our agenda. We visited the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, for a 2-day oversight working visit.

We were warmly received at the Nigerian Content Tower by Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe (FNSE), Executive Secretary of NCDMB, and other top management staff of the Board. Their presentation highlighted the development of content initiatives in operational practices.

The visit is part of our efforts to ensure that the NCDMB fulfills its mandate. It aims to increase Nigerian participation in the Oil and Gas Industry, emphasizing on local content strategies. This effort creates economic opportunities and improves the livelihood of Nigerians. This aligns with the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act 2010.

Let me reaffirm the commitment of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR is dedicated to growing local capacity as essential content for national growth.

Growing local capacity is the way to create employment for our teeming graduates and artisans. Through increased local content initiatives, more jobs can be generated.

We are industry operators. We can’t blame the federal government for the unemployment. We aid and abet those determined to bypass the law, especially in ignoring the mandates. We all have shared responsibility.

LOCAL CONTENT COMMITTEE OVERSIGHT VISIT TO NCDMB

We have to actively be seen to support this government initiative to create massive employment for our people. Never again, will jobs met for our people outsourced to expatriates, bypassing the local content approved strategies.

As a Committee, we shall engage and collaborate actively. We will work hard to create an enabling environment that will foster business growth and promote local content-driven job creation. It will also develop critical assets and skills.
