The President, Bola Tinubu, has conveyed his condolences upon the death of Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, who was the former Governor of Delta State, describing him as a public servant whose leadership was directed towards the development of the state and the service of the nation.
Tinubu sent a message of sympathy to the Uduaghan family, to the Delta State Government and to the people of the state over the death of the former governor, who was 71 years of age.
The message said that the sender was deeply saddened and was therefore extending their condolences to the Uduaghan family, the government, and the people of Delta State regarding the death of the former Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, who was 71 years of age.
Dr Uduaghan was a public servant who was entirely devoted to promoting the development of Delta State and to serving our nation.
In 2007 he was elected Governor of Delta State and had before that been Commissioner for Health and Secretary to the State Government; the two terms which he served, ending in 2015, placed him at the centre of the state’s political and developmental advancement.
At the time he advanced efforts to improve the infrastructure, the provision of healthcare, and the general welfare of the Deltans.
The President maintained that Uduaghan was still taking a part in the political and socio-economic matters of Delta State, helping to promote democratic governance and rendering public service, even after he had left office.
He referred to the death of the former governor as a great loss to his family, to the community, to Delta State and to the country.
Tinubu urged the people of Delta State to draw their strength from Uduaghan’s long record of service and from the lasting relationships which he had built up within all the different political and social circles of the country.
On behalf of my family, the Nigerian government and the people of Nigeria, I would like to extend our most sincere sympathies to his wife, Roli; to his children; to his cousin, the former Governor James Ibori; and to his friends and political associates whose lives he touched. “I hope that Almighty God grants him a peaceful rest and gives comfort to all who are grieved by his death,” the President said.
