NUJ URGES ACTION ON DELTA STATE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM

NUJ calls for urgent action from the Delta State Government to improve healthcare facilities and repair critical roads.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Warri Correspondents Chapel, has called on the Delta State Government to take urgent action. An overhaul of the state’s healthcare system is needed. They cite poor facilities in many hospitals as the reason for their call.

In a communique issued after its congress, the Chapel highlighted the dilapidated Dentistry Department at Ughelli General Hospital. Broken dental chairs and tables stay unattended there. It urged the Commissioner for Health to tour facilities across the state to fix these shortcomings.

The union also decried the poor state of roads, naming Isaba–Otutuama, Ophorigbala–Ighwurogu, and Idjerhe Roads as critical areas needing repair. A special appeal was made for Eburu Road in Warri’s Okumagba Layout, where the NUJ Secretariat is located.

On housing, the Chapel condemned exploitative rent practices by agents and landlords, warning that arbitrary increases are worsening residents’ hardship. It urged the government to emulate Lagos State’s rent model, which allows tenants flexible payment options.
