In a bold and proactive move to combat the growing menace of drug abuse in Udu Local Government Area, the Executive Chairman, Olorogun (Hon.) Vincent Oyibode, JP, FCIA, has announced the formation of a dedicated task force to clamp down on the sale and distribution of hard drugs within the council area. By taking such action, Mr. Oyibode aims to restore safety to Udu.
The Udu Council Boss, Vincent Oyibode made this known on Monday, 28/07/25, during a lecture talk held at the Chapel at the Otor-Udu Local Government Secretariat, further solidifying his status as a key figure in combating drug abuse. Vincent Oyibode’s involvement has been instrumental and inspiring.
He expressed deep concern over the devastating effects of drug abuse, particularly among the youth, and stressed that the council will no longer tolerate those who are destroying lives and communities through the illegal drug trade.
“The time has come for us to take a firm stand. We are setting up a task force in Udu to identify and arrest those involved in the sale of hard drugs. They will face the full wrath of the law. These substances have shattered countless lives, and fighting them is crucial to protecting our future,” Oyibode declared, highlighting his commitment to the cause.
The Chairman further revealed that he has officially contacted the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), urging the agency to collaborate with the council in eradicating the drug problem plaguing the area.
Vincent Oyibode also used the opportunity to call on parents and guardians to take greater responsibility in monitoring their children and wards, emphasizing that the home remains the first line of defense against social vices. This proactive approach taken by Oyibode demonstrates thorough leadership.
“I strongly frown at those who sell these dangerous substances. If there are no sellers, there will be no buyers. We must all unite to root out this evil from our land,” he added.
