OGHENEMINE OGIDI KILLING SPARKS OUTRAGE NATIONWIDE

Oghenemine Ogidi killing

Oghenemine Ogidi’s killing raises alarm as video surfaces showing him pleading for life moments before his tragic death.

On April 26, 2026, musician Oghenemine Ogidi, also known as Mene or OG Millan, was shot and killed by ASP Nuhu Usman in Effurun, Delta State.

A widely circulated video showed Ogidi in handcuffs, pleading for his life before being shot at close range.

Earlier, he was arrested on suspicion of attempting to send a parcel containing a pistol and ammunition.

Investigation and Disciplinary Actions

The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed ASP Usman and three inspectors involved in the incident.

However, the officers have been transferred to Abuja to face criminal prosecution.

Also, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, confirmed that they will face murder charges.

The police disciplinary panel found serious violations of Force Order 237/247, which governs the use of firearms.

Public and Official Reactions

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori described the act as “barbaric and unlawful” and commended the Inspector-General of Police for responding promptly.

However, Human rights organisations are calling for full accountability and reforms to policing practices.

Ogidi’s mother has stated that all officers present should receive the same punishment, not only ASP Usman.

Implications and Public Sentiment

The incident has renewed public anger over police brutality and revived memories of the #EndSARS protests.

Public trust in law enforcement may decline if justice is not visibly served.

This case has become a national test of police accountability.

Latest Developments

Autopsy: Ogidi’s body remains in the mortuary, awaiting an autopsy.

Prosecution: ASP Usman and the other dismissed officers are expected to be charged with unlawful homicide in Abuja.

Community Pressure: Residents of Effurun and Warri are demanding clear justice and transparency.

Family Demands: The victim’s family is requesting broader accountability, including for those involved in the arrest.
