NACOMYO (National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations) has rejected opposition to Bola Tinubu’s Muslim-Muslim ticket ahead of the 2027 presidential election, calling it “sheer hypocrisy”.
NACOMYO argued that Christians have received greater benefits than Muslims under the Tinubu administration, especially in the area of political patronage and government appointments.
The organisation communicated this in a statement signed by its National Secretary, Alhaj Mas’ud Ayodele Akintola, and provided to journalists in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Wednesday.
NACOMYO is responding to the renewed opposition to the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket from groups such as the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), the National Christian Elders Forum (NCEF) and the Christian Youth Alliance of Nigeria (CYAN).
Akintola remembered that when the Tinubu administration first began, various Christian groups expressed concerns about alleged marginalisation.
He stated that at that time the Presidency had made public the figure that 62 per cent of the appointments made by the administration were Christians, while other religious groups made up 38 per cent.
He states that this trend has carried on, giving as examples the recent appointments of Christians in place of the previous Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede.
He said that it should be the Muslims who raise the issue concerning the alleged imbalance in the appointments made by the administration.
Akintola called on religious organisations to support the government by offering practical advice and prayers aimed at advancing the country.
The statement from NACOMYO says that the recent opposition on the part of certain Christian groups in the country to the Muslim-Muslim ticket of President Tinubu in the upcoming presidential elections amounts to pure hypocrisy, as Christian groups are benefiting more than any other religious group in the present situation.
NACOMYO would like to remind the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), the National Christian Elders Forum (NCEF), and the Christian Youth Alliance of Nigeria (CYAN) that although Muslims voted overwhelmingly in favour of Tinubu’s presidency, Christians supported another presidential candidate. Is it not ironic that those who were meant to be eating from the pulpits are now only having crumbs?
At a time when the Presidency is encountering scrutiny linked to CBCN (Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria), NACOMYO stated that Muslims should make the greatest show of protest since there are serious imbalances in the appointments which have so far been made.
When this administration first came into being, the apex youth organisation of the Muslims remembered that the Presidency had stated that 62 per cent of the appointments were made for Christians, whereas other religious groups had only 38 per cent.
The same trend is still going on today if we look at the fact that Christians have now taken over the positions previously held by Muslims, namely the Minister of Power and the Registrar of JAMB.
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Right Honourable Benjamin Kalu, recently stated that 780 million naira had been included in the 2026 budget for his constituency and that the money is intended for 200 churches in the Bende Federal Constituency.
