Lionel Messi has opened up about one of his biggest personal regrets off the pitch — not learning English when he was younger. Despite achieving almost everything possible in football, the Argentine superstar admitted that language remains something he wishes he had taken more seriously.
Messi explained that while growing up and building his career, he had opportunities to study English but did not fully commit to it. Now, after years of playing on the global stage and interacting with international media, he feels it would have helped him communicate more comfortably in certain situations.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner revealed that there were moments at international events where he felt limited because he could not express himself fluently in English. According to him, it is something he now looks back on and wishes he had approached differently.
Although Lionel Messi has conquered football with historic success at club and international level, this admission highlights a more human side of the global icon — proof that even the greatest athletes reflect on personal growth beyond the game.
