President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Olatunji Rilwan Disu as the new Acting Inspector-General of Police. The appointment follows the resignation of the former IGP, Kayode Egbetokun. This marks a significant leadership transition within the country’s security structure.
Tunji Disu, a seasoned officer with decades of experience, steps into the role at a critical time. Currently, Nigeria continues to battle security challenges ranging from terrorism and banditry to kidnapping and cybercrime. Moreover, his appointment is seen as part of ongoing efforts by the Tinubu administration to reposition the Nigeria Police Force for greater efficiency, professionalism, and accountability.
Before his elevation, Disu served in several strategic capacities within the force. He earned recognition for his operational discipline and leadership style. Security analysts believe his background in intelligence and field operations could play a key role. Specifically, it may strengthen internal security coordination across the country.
The Acting IGP is expected to work closely with other security agencies to enhance intelligence sharing and improve rapid response mechanisms nationwide. Additionally, his confirmation by the appropriate authorities is anticipated in the coming weeks.
