President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the list of 65 ambassadors-designate who will represent Nigeria in various countries around the world. This marks a significant step in restoring Nigeria’s full diplomatic presence globally.
The appointments include both career diplomats and political appointees who are expected to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign relations. Moreover, they will promote trade and advance the country’s strategic interests abroad. The ambassadorial postings follow Senate confirmation after months of diplomatic vacancies in several Nigerian missions.
Among the key appointments, Colonel Lateef Kayode Are (Rtd.) has been designated as Nigeria’s ambassador to the United States. Meanwhile, Ambassador Aminu Mohammed Dalhatu will serve as High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. Ambassador Ayodele Oke has been posted to France. Additionally, Ambassador Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman will represent Nigeria in Turkey.
Other ambassadorial nominees have been assigned to countries across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Nigeria moves to strengthen bilateral cooperation and expand economic diplomacy. The new ambassadors are expected to assume duty after completing the required diplomatic briefings and official documentation.
The development comes as the administration of President Tinubu pushes to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy. This focuses on investment promotion, security cooperation, and stronger regional influence.
The appointments are also expected to help improve consular services for Nigerians abroad while enhancing diplomatic engagement with host countries.
