The ATSSSAN and the NUATE in the aviation industry hereby issue a final 7-day ultimatum to all airline operators and organisations in default of the statutory 5% TSC.
aviation sector have issued a final seven-day ultimatum to airline operators and other organisations that have failed to remit the required five per cent Ticket Sales Charge (TSC), warning that failure to comply could lead to industrial action and disrupt operations across the sector.
The Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) announced the new deadline after an earlier 14-day notice issued to affected organisations expired without satisfactory compliance.
The unions accused some airline operators and organisations of what they described as “willful non-compliance” with the statutory requirement. According to the unions, the failure to remit the TSC has affected the finances of aviation agencies, weakened workers’ welfare, and created concerns about the ability of relevant agencies to effectively maintain safety standards within Nigeria’s airspace.
Union leaders Frances Akinjole of ATSSSAN and Odinaka Igbokwe of NUATE said the organisations had been given sufficient opportunity to settle their outstanding obligations. They stressed that the latest seven-day ultimatum should be regarded as a final opportunity for defaulting operators to comply before stronger measures are taken.
The unions warned that if the outstanding payments are not made within the stipulated period, workers would begin picketing the offices and facilities of organisations that remain in default.
They also called on relevant government authorities and aviation stakeholders to ensure that the statutory remittance is properly enforced. The unions maintained that timely payment of the TSC is essential to the effective functioning of aviation agencies and the overall development and safety of Nigeria’s aviation industry.
The development could heighten tensions between aviation workers and operators if the affected organisations fail to meet the unions’ demands before the expiration of the seven-day deadline.
