Ifeanyi Udeze backs Victor Osimhen to score in the Africa Cup of Nations against Tunisia. Discover more about his confidence.
The former Nigerian defender Ifeanyi Udeze is said to have backed Victor Osimhen. He is expected to end his Africa Cup of Nations goal drought. This will happen when the Super Eagles face Tunisia on Saturday.
Ifeanyi Udeze expressed confidence that the striker’s goals will come. This belief persists despite his failure to score in Nigeria’s opening victory over Tanzania. In this match, Osimhen missed several clear-cut chances, but Udeze remains positive.
Victor Osimhen is said to have scored once in nine Africa Cup of Nations appearances. These appearances span across three editions, extending his barren run at the tournament, but with Udeze’s support, he aims to break the streak.
The Galatasaray have been advancing; however, arrives in Morocco in strong form at club and international level. Osimhen has in total scored 12 goals for Galatasaray this season. Additionally, he scored eight goals for Nigeria in 2025. Ifeanyi Udeze believes his form is promising.
Ifeanyi Udeze said Osimhen’s recent struggles during the tournament were not a cause for concern.
“He didn’t score against Tanzania, but the goals will come,” Ifeanyi Udeze told Footy-Africa.
“For me, it is not a problem. Osimhen just needed to keep his cool, and the goals will all follow.”
The former defender added that Victor Osimhen was visibly frustrated after drawing during the opener. He expects a response against Tunisia, as Udeze maintains his support in Osimhen.
“He was frustrated and angry. He didn’t score against Tanzania. Hopefully, he scores against Tunisia, and the goals start flowing,” he said.
Nigeria and Tunisia meet in a top-of-the-table Group encounter at the 40,000-capacity Fez Stadium on Saturday (today).
Both sides won their opening matches. Tunisia defeated Uganda. A victory on Saturday would secure early qualification for the round of 16. Udeze’s insights highlight the stakes of this encounter.
Udeze is anticipating a closely fought contest.
