
Victor Osimhen discusses the lasting effects of his 2021 facial injury and why he still wears a protective mask today.
Galatasaray forward, Victor Osimhen, has revealed the impact of the facial injury he sustained in 2021. He explained why he continues to wear a protective mask. It has been four years since the incident in the Serie A match against Inter Milan, where he was injured.
In a recent conversation with MMA champion Kerim Engizek, the 26-year-old said he still experiences nerve damage from the injury. This continues to affect his ability to eat.
According to Osimhen, he only eat his right side of my face, he said. “I can not eat with the left side. The left side doesn’t work properly anymore.” Key aspects of Victor Osimhen’s routine have been significantly altered by this injury
The accident hard left him with many facial injuries, which includes a broken eye socket and cheekbone. He however, required a titanium plate and 18 screws for reconstructive surgery.
Doctors has initially feared that he would lose vision of his left eye, although Osimhen recovered. He has also said that he continues to experience numbness and some movement on the left side of his face. Victor Osimhen commended the medical team for facilitating his recovery.
Recall during the incident, Victor Osimhen has said, “A pass came in from the wing. And I went up for the header, and he pulled his head back. This was not intentional, but I hit his skull every had with my chin and the bone shattered immediately everywhere. While discussing his experiences, Osimhen reflects on the importance of overcoming such challenges.
“At the hospital, first, they ordered an MRI then they checked with X-ray. The doctor said to me, ‘You need a surgery.’ At first I refused. ‘There is no way that I am having a surgery.’ But this was the only way for me to continue playing football. To keep playing, Victor Osimhen understood the necessity of that surgery.”
