Celebrate Tobi Amusan’s victory in the women’s hurdles, as she claims her third African championship gold medal in Accra.

Nigerian sprint hurdler Tobi Amusan has once again made the country proud after winning gold in the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana.

The world record holder produced a commanding performance in the final, finishing with a time of 12.83 seconds to successfully defend her continental title. Moreover, the victory also marked her third African championship gold medal in the event. This followed earlier triumphs in Asaba 2018 and Mauritius 2022.

Zimbabwe’s Ashley Miller secured the silver medal. Meanwhile, fellow Nigerian Adaobi Tabugbo claimed bronze to complete an impressive outing for Team Nigeria in the women’s hurdles category.

After the race, Amusan expressed happiness over the victory. She stated that her focus remains on maintaining consistency ahead of upcoming international competitions later in the season.

The championship has continued to showcase some of Africa’s best athletic talents. In addition, Nigeria recorded strong performances across several track and field events. Nigerian sprinter Rosemary Chukwuma also added to the country’s medal tally after winning silver in the women’s 100m event.

Amusan remains one of Africa’s biggest athletics stars. This is after becoming the first Nigerian athlete to win a World Athletics Championship gold medal and set a world record in the women’s 100m hurdles.
