The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially released the timetable for the 2027 General Elections.
According to the commission, the Presidential and National Assembly elections will take place on Saturday, 20 February 2027. On that day, Nigerians across the country will vote to elect the President, Vice President, Senators, and Members of the House of Representatives. The announcement was released by Inec.
Two weeks later, on Saturday, 6 March 2027, the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will be conducted in states where governorship elections are due. This staggered arrangement follows the established electoral pattern. It is aimed at improving logistics, security coordination, and overall election management nationwide.
INEC stated that the timetable was released in compliance with constitutional provisions and the Electoral Act 2022. These require the commission to publish the Notice of Election at least 360 days before the polls. With the official announcement now made, political parties are expected to begin internal preparations. These include party primaries, candidate nominations, and campaign planning.
The release of the INEC 2027 election timetable formally signals the beginning of the electoral cycle. It also sets the countdown to another major chapter in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
