Senator Adams Oshiomhole of Edo North supports Governor Okpebholo’s proposal to introduce the death penalty for kidnappers and bandits in Edo State.
Oshiomhole has endorsed Governor Okpebholo’s plan to implement the death penalty for kidnappers and bandits in Edo State.
He announced his support while addressing supporters at the launch of the Edo North Local Government election campaign in Auchi, Etsako West.
According to Patrick Ebojele, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Okpebholo, Oshiomhole commended the administration for restoring order and highlighted the authority of states within Nigeria’s federation to enact laws prescribing punishments for local offences.
“I fully support the governor’s position. Kidnappers and bandits will face the death penalty by firing squad,” Oshiomhole said.
He also praised Okpebholo’s reconstruction of the historic Jattu Market, a commercial hub in Edo North for over 200 years. Reflecting on his childhood experience weaving and selling baskets there, Oshiomhole described the market as vital to the region’s economic and cultural life.
Oshiomhole emphasized that the redevelopment would preserve the market’s heritage while offering a safer, modern environment for traders. Addressing concerns about project costs, he stated that the extensive use of reinforced concrete justified the investment.
The Jattu Market project is part of Governor Okpebholo’s broader initiative to modernise trading centres across Edo State. Oba Market and Ekpoma Modern Market are also being redeveloped to improve facilities and enhance business conditions.
