ADC CLARIFIES PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE STATUS

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) rejects Atiku Abubakar and confirms Professor Chris Uba as its official presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), under National Chairman Nafiu Bala Gombe, has dismissed claims that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is its 2027 presidential candidate. Nevertheless, the party stated it has concluded its internal processes and formally nominated Professor Chris Uba as its flag bearer.

However, in a statement, Gombe clarified that Atiku “is not, and has never been,” the ADC’s candidate, and advised him to stop presenting himself as such. He added that the faction allegedly led by David Mark is illegitimate and not recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The ADC stated it is not in alliance, merger, or coalition with any political party, and remains independent and ideologically grounded. Gombe noted that the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act 2026 guided the lawful nomination of Uba, describing him as competent, credible, and capable of providing transformational leadership.

However, the statement rejected allegations of a plot to exclude the ADC from the 2027 elections as baseless. Also reaffirmed confidence in INEC and Nigeria’s electoral arrangement, and pledged to resist any attempt to destabilise the party or misrepresent its identity.

The ADC stated it is fully prepared to contest all positions in the upcoming elections, and urged members, stakeholders, and the public to disregard unauthorized claims or statements from factions.
