Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has revealed his monthly salary of ₦503,000, less than that of Permanent Secretaries, while driving a $207,000 Maybach.
The Governor of Delta State, Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has revealed that his monthly salary is ₦503,000, which is less than the ₦900,000 that Permanent Secretaries receive within the state’s civil service.
This information has generated public interest, especially given reports that the governor travels to work in a Maybach worth about $207,000 (more than ₦300 million).
Governance and Public Response
Even though there are doubts about the governor’s way of life, many residents have said they are satisfied with his administration’s performance. People point to improvements to road infrastructure and various construction projects throughout the state as the main accomplishments of his time in office.
Yet there are still concerns about the lack of important industrial development. In Warri, one of the state’s main oil-producing cities, people point out that tricycle (Keke) services and Point-of-Sale (POS) businesses have now become the main sources of employment, indicating that there are few opportunities in manufacturing and large-scale enterprise.
Development Priorities
The administration has been asked by stakeholders and community members to extend its development programme. Suggestions are as follows:
- Setting up a power turbine in order to increase the amount of electricity available and draw in private investment.
- We are introducing policies designed to promote industrial growth, which will allow Delta State to have more factories and production facilities.
- To deal with the increasing rents and agency fees, housing estates should be invested in for civil servants and workers in the private sector.
- Spreading out the development of infrastructure and social services to cover the riverine communities, who are frequently the subject of neglect.
Outlook
The fact that Governor Oborevwori has made the disclosure highlights the gap between official salaries and the way political figures in Nigeria live. Among many Deltans, the main question is whether the administration can translate current infrastructure achievements into sustainable economic growth and job creation.
