OTEGA EMERHOR DID NOT BUILD APC DELTA - LAWRENCE EMOEFE

Olorogun Otega Emerhor often claims to be APC Delta’s “Founding Leader and Central Pillar.”

This overlooks the important roles played by the late Senator S. O. Okpozo and other early pioneers who helped shape the party’s ideas and structure.

Otega Emerhor was not the only person to build APC Delta. He was recognised partly for his early involvement, but many leaders and members from Delta Central, Delta North, and Delta South worked together to build the party. No one person can take all the credit.

People remember his leadership for causing division rather than unity. During his time, party congresses stopped being open events and became private meetings run by his company’s staff. Real party leaders were left out of the decision-making. Well-known figures like Mr Fidelis Tilije and Dr Otive Igbuzor, who wanted to run for governor, were pushed aside. Tilije even left the party, and others became frustrated. This approach slowed APC’s growth for years. You cannot claim to be the main builder of something you only helped with. In the 2013 by-election for the Delta Central Senatorial seat, Emerhor was APC’s first candidate. He lost to Senator Agwariavwodo by 263,024 votes to 29,075.

In 2015, he ran for Governor but lost again. Governor Ifeanyi Okowa won with 724,680 votes. Chief Great Ogboru of the Labour Party came second with 130,028 votes, while Otega Emerhor finished third with only 67,825 votes.e lost his polling unit and ward in every election, including the presidential election. It is sad how desperation can take away someone’s dignity. The man who once claimed to be Delta’s saviour now speaks out for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who did not consider him for the 2027 Delta Central senate ticket. He has gone from seeking importance in APC to attacking on behalf of those who turned him down. When a leader only relies on angry outbursts, his influence is over.

The facts are clear: APC only started winning elections in Delta after Senator Ovie Omo-Agege joined the party. This shows the difference between just claiming leadership and actually proving it. Omo-Agege has now left APC Delta and is focused on other priorities. Those still in the party will have to address its current issues.
