FUBARA WITHDRAWS FROM APC GOVERNORSHIP PRIMARIES

Fubara withdraws from APC primaries

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has withdrawn from the APC governorship primaries ahead of the 2027 elections, citing peace, unity, and stability in Rivers State.

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has formally stepped down from participating in the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement personally signed on Wednesday, Fubara explained that his decision followed wide consultations with his family, political allies, and supporters. Moreover, he emphasised that the move was aimed at safeguarding peace, unity, and stability in Rivers State. The governor also pledged to back whoever eventually emerges as the APC candidate.

Acknowledging the difficulty of the choice, Fubara noted that leadership often demands personal sacrifice. He stressed that the collective interest of Rivers State must outweigh individual ambition.

His withdrawal comes amid significant political shifts within the APC in Rivers State. This is just before the party’s governorship primary scheduled for Thursday. Additionally, reports further reveal that APC stalwart and former candidate Tonye Cole has also exited the race, citing the need for party cohesion.

Fubara’s decision has already triggered widespread reactions. Many analysts view it as a pivotal moment in Rivers State politics as the countdown to the 2027 elections continues.
