Governor Monday Okpebholo has officially unveiled newly constructed roads funded by the Niger Delta Development Commission at Edo State Polytechnic. This marks another step in infrastructure development within the state.
The road projects, executed through NDDC intervention funds, are aimed at improving accessibility within the polytechnic campus. These upgrades also enhance the learning environment for students and staff. Moreover, the upgraded road network is expected to ease movement and reduce flooding during heavy rains. It should also boost overall campus safety.
Speaking during the commissioning, Okpebholo reportedly commended the NDDC for supporting infrastructure growth in Edo State. He emphasized that strategic partnerships between state governments and federal agencies remain key to accelerating development. Furthermore, he noted that improved infrastructure in educational institutions directly impacts academic productivity and student welfare.
The projects are part of broader efforts to upgrade critical facilities across the Niger Delta region. Over the years, the NDDC has funded road construction, healthcare centres, school renovations, and community-based development programmes. These programmes are aimed at addressing infrastructural gaps.
Students and community members have welcomed the development, describing the roads as long overdue. Poor road conditions within tertiary institutions have often been linked to transportation challenges and delayed academic activities.
With this unveiling, attention now shifts to the maintenance of the new infrastructure. There is also curiosity about whether additional projects will follow to further transform educational facilities in Edo State.
