Praise for Rt. Hon. Waive’s courageous motion on electoral integrity and real-time transmission of election results in Nigeria.
Commendation to Rt. Hon. Waive for Legislative Courage and Commitment to Electoral Integrity
I, Olorogun Chief Amb. Emmanuel Shobor JP, wish to formally commend the distinguished Member representing Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and Udu Federal Constituency in the National Assembly. Francis Ejiroghene Waive has made a bold and thoughtful motion. He is seeking the removal of mandatory real-time transmission of election results.
Rt. Hon. Waive’s initiative reflects legislative courage and a deep commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s electoral framework in a manner that prioritizes transparency, practicality, and national stability. In a country where technological infrastructure remains uneven across regions, especially in rural and riverine communities, it is imperative that our electoral processes are not overly dependent on systems that may be vulnerable to technical failure, network disruptions, or manipulation.
The motion demonstrates foresight acknowledging that while technology is an important tool in modern elections, it must not override the need for reliability, legal clarity, and verifiable manual safeguards within our democratic system. Electoral reforms must be guided by evidence, operational realities, and the overarching goal of preserving public confidence in the democratic process.
Rt. Hon. Waive has once again proven himself to be a proactive legislator who is not afraid to initiate conversations that may be sensitive but necessary for national progress. His action underscores his dedication to responsible governance and his unwavering representation of the interests of his constituents and the Nigerian people at large.
I encourage the National Assembly to carefully consider this motion with objectivity and patriotism, ensuring that any reform adopted ultimately strengthens our democracy, enhances credibility, and promotes unity.
Nigeria’s democratic journey requires courage, balance, and wisdom — and Rt. Hon. Ejiroghene Waive has demonstrated all three.
Signed:
