OBOREVWORI AT DELSU: COMMITMENT TO ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

Governor Oborevwori urges DELSU Governing Council members to fulfill duties with integrity and commitment to academic excellence.

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, addressed the newly inaugurated members of the Governing Council of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka. He gave them a charge. They are to discharge their responsibilities with integrity. They should do so with diligence and a deep sense of commitment.

He noted that effective governance remains key. It strengthens the institution’s standing. This helps it become a leading centre of academic excellence in Nigeria and beyond.

The governor gave the charge during the inauguration of Rt. Hon. Festus Agas, Rt. Hon. Frank Enekorogha and Mr. Charles Ajuyah, SAN, as members of the University’s Governing Council.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Oborevwori described the inauguration as significant despite his tight schedule. He noted that the Governing Council plays a central role in the effective governance of any university. This is achieved through policy direction and oversight.

He said the appointment of the new members came at an auspicious time. DELSU continues to strengthen its position as a leading centre of higher learning in Nigeria and beyond.

“The Governing Council is essential for effective university governance. It provides policy direction and ensures that institutional goals are achieved,” the governor said. He added that his administration had consistently appointed people of proven integrity. They have experience and distinction. These individuals serve in the governing councils of tertiary institutions in the state.

According to him, the three appointees have distinguished themselves in public service. They have shown exceptional leadership. This makes them eminently qualified for the responsibility entrusted to them.

He said: “As members of the Governing Council, you carry the aspirations of thousands of students, staff, and alumni. You also carry the hopes of the entire people of Delta State. Your decisions will shape policies, influence academic direction and define the future of this great university for generations to come”.

He urged them to serve with transparency and commitment. He stressed that their decisions would have a lasting impact on lives. These decisions would also affect the future of the institution.

The governor expressed confidence in their wealth of experience. This experience would help DELSU continue to produce academically sound graduates. These graduates are also expected to be morally upright and socially responsible.

Responding on behalf of the inaugurated members, Rt. Hon. Festus Agas expressed gratitude to God. He also thanked the Delta State Government for the opportunity to serve. He described the appointment as a great honour and a call to service.

He assured the governor that the council members would work harmoniously with the Vice-Chancellor. They would cooperate with university management to add value to the administration of the institution. This collaboration aims to advance its mission.

Agas praised Governor Oborevwori’s leadership. He highlighted the cordial relationship among the arms of government in the state. This collaboration has led to remarkable achievements within two and a half years.

He praised the administration’s achievements in peace and security. He also acknowledged progress in infrastructure development, human capital development, and healthcare. He cited progress on major road projects. Additionally, he praised youth empowerment programmes and the strengthening of the contributory health insurance scheme.

“We thank the Governor for the confidence reposed in us. We will serve with dedication. We will act with loyalty and integrity,” Agas said. He prayed for continued wisdom and strength for the governor to take Delta State to greater heights.
