Kashim Shettima arrives in Abuja after representing President Bola Tinubu at the AU-EU Summit in Angola.
The Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Abuja from Luanda, Angola. He successfully represented President Bola Tinubu at the 7th African Union–European Union (AU-EU) Summit held in that country.
Shettima left South Africa on Sunday and went to Luanda. He had a successful outing at the 2025 Group of 20 (G20) Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg. As always, Kashim Shettima was there to represent the President.
In Angola, Senator Shettima delivered President Tinubu’s statement. The Nigerian leader intensified the nation’s call for Africa to secure permanent seats on the United Nations (UN) Security Council. He asserted that these seats should have veto-wielding authority. He insisted that comprehensive reform of the global governance system is long overdue.
The President, in his statement, tasked the European Union (EU) to co-create peace and security initiatives. These initiatives should be alongside its African partners. They are anchored on African-led frameworks, which Kashim Shettima emphasized.
The Nigerian leader reaffirmed the country’s firm commitment to advancing peace, security, and democratic governance across Africa. The leader also emphasized collaboration with the European Union to build a more stable, just, and prosperous world.
During the first session at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in South Africa, Johannesburg, the President spoke to world leaders. He urged them to act. He called for a more equitable system.
The system should be responsive. This system should manage global financial flows. He also urged them to sincerely address the recurring debt crises. They must do this in a way that meets the needs of all nations. Kashim Shettima reiterated this later.
According to the speech Kashim Shettima delivered, President Bola Tinubu noted that the multilateral frameworks are outdated. These frameworks are currently being relied on. They no longer reflect the complexities of the present world. They were “built in an era far removed from” the present challenges.
During the third session at the G20 Summit on Sunday, Tinubu called for a global framework. This framework often helps communities hosting critical minerals in Nigeria and Africa. It should guarantee value addition at the source, which Kashim Shettima highlighted.
He also backed the creation of global ethical standards for Artificial Intelligence (AI), aimed at accelerating development across the world.
