US Congressman Riley Moore praised the House of Representatives for approving Nigeria’s state police bill, calling it an important move to improve security and help protect vulnerable communities.

The state police bill allows each of Nigeria’s 36 states to establish its own police force in addition to the Federal Nigeria Police Force. It still needs approval from the Senate, state assemblies, and the president.

Moore thanked the House for passing the policy, saying, “I am thankful to see the House pass this important policy, which I have long advocated since being asked to investigate the genocide against Christians in Nigeria.” He also spoke with Nigeria’s First Lady during her visit to Washington and met with several Nigerian delegations.

Moore highlighted the need to empower states, saying, “Empowering states to protect citizens is key to ending persecution and restoring stability.” He also said, “President Tinubu deserves recognition for supporting this legislation and urging its passage through parliament.”

Moore concluded, “While challenges remain, this milestone reflects meaningful progress toward fully establishing state-level police forces.”
