Apply now for PTDF overseas scholarships and study in the UK, Germany, France, or Malaysia for your postgraduate degree.
The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that applications of PTDF overseas scholarships have begun. They are now open for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund Overseas Scholarship Scheme. This scheme provides opportunities for Nigerian postgraduate students to study in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia.
Urhobo Daily confirmed this in a post that was shared on X (Formerly Twitter). The post was by the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, on Monday.
The post said that applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund PTDF Overseas Scholarships would start soon.
The scholarship board website states that the scheme targets MSc and PhD candidates. These candidates should be in disciplines relevant to the oil and gas sector. It offers benefits like tuition, return flight tickets, accommodation and living allowances, health insurance, and bench fees where applicable.
The PTDF statement said, “The 2026 Overseas MSc and PhD Scholarships offer access to world-class training. They offer research facilities and global knowledge. They also develop indigenous capacity in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.”
For PhD applicants in the United Kingdom, scholarships will follow a split-site arrangement. This enables research collaboration between the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK), and selected UK partner universities. These universities include Robert Gordon University, University of Strathclyde, and University of Portsmouth.
The agency emphasized that the scholarships are highly competitive. “Only those candidates who have shown outstanding merit and suitability will be considered first,” he said. It added that applicants will be evaluated based on academic qualifications. They will also be assessed on their research proposals. Their membership in professional bodies is important. Additionally, the relevance of their studies to the oil and gas industry will be considered.
Requirements for MSc applicants include at least Second Class Lower (2.2) in a first degree (or 2.1), completion of the NYSC programme, computer literacy, and five O’Level credits including English Language and Mathematics. PhD applicants must also submit a research proposal of up to five pages outlining objectives, method, and data collection approaches.
Still, submitting more than one application will result in automatic disqualification. Providing falsified documents will also lead to automatic disqualification,” the PTDF statement added.
Interested candidates are advised to apply online at scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng for approved programmes at PTDF partner institutions. The closing date for applications is 27th February
