
The Peter Odili Centre is now operational, offering vital cancer and cardiovascular diagnostics in Port Harcourt with free patient registration.
The Dr Peter Odili Cancer and Cardiovascular Diagnostic and Treatment Centre in Rumuokwuta, Port Harcourt, has started operations. This occurs more than three years after its inauguration.
The N25.9 billion facility was constructed during the administration of former Governor Nyesom Wike. It had remained largely unused. There was no staff and minimal activity.
This situation prompted repeated calls from the Nigerian Medical Association. Members of the public also urged for it to be made functional.
A notice displayed at the entrance of the centre announces free registration for new patients, signalling the start of services.
The three-storey complex is equipped with an Intensive Care Unit and a Critical Care Unit. It also includes radiotherapy and brachytherapy units. There is a nuclear medicine unit. Additionally, a helipad is available for emergency evacuations.
Residents of Rivers State have taken to social media. They express hope that the Mother and Child Hospital on Aba Road, Port Harcourt, will also be opened.
The 132-bed facility features 50 delivery rooms and six modular operating theatres. It offers in-vitro fertilization services. Additionally, it is equipped with fluoroscopic and mammography equipment.
