Nigeria is set to host the prestigious CAF Awards in 2026, celebrating African football excellence and unity.
Nigeria has officially won the bid to host the prestigious 2026 CAF Awards ceremony. This marks another major moment for African football in the country.
The announcement came after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved Nigeria’s hosting rights during the Africa Forward Summit held in Nairobi, Kenya. In addition, the event will also feature the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly. This will bring together football administrators, delegates, and stakeholders from across Africa.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe reportedly met with Nigerian football officials before the final confirmation. Among those involved in the successful bid were former NFF president Amaju Pinnick and current NFF president Ibrahim Gusau.
Nigeria previously hosted the CAF Awards in Lagos. At that time, African football stars such as Yaya Touré, Riyad Mahrez, and Asisat Oshoala received top honours.
The 2026 edition is expected to attract football legends, media organizations, scouts, sponsors, and fans from across the continent. Analysts also believe the tournament-related activities could boost tourism, hospitality, and Nigeria’s international sporting image.
With preparations expected to begin soon, football fans across the country will now look forward to seeing Africa’s biggest football stars gather in Nigeria. Indeed, it will be one of the continent’s most celebrated football events.
