OBASANJO CELEBRATES HIS 89TH BIRTHDAY WITH HEALTH OUTREACH IN LAGOS

OBASANJO

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has marked his 89th birthday with a large-scale free medical outreach programme in Lagos. The event extended healthcare services to hundreds of residents in need.

The outreach, organised as part of activities to commemorate his birthday, provided free medical consultations, eye screenings, medications, and minor surgical procedures. Many beneficiaries were elderly citizens and low-income earners. They expressed gratitude for the initiative. Moreover, they described it as timely amid rising healthcare costs.

Obasanjo, who served as Nigeria’s civilian president from 1999 to 2007, has long been associated with humanitarian and community development efforts. He has worked through various foundations and interventions. The birthday outreach reflects his continued commitment to public service beyond active politics.

Medical professionals and volunteers who participated in the programme noted that the initiative aimed not only to celebrate the former leader’s longevity. It also aimed to promote preventive healthcare and early diagnosis of common ailments.

Community leaders in Lagos commended the gesture, saying it demonstrated a legacy of service and compassion. They urged other public figures to adopt similar people-focused initiatives, especially in areas where access to quality healthcare remains limited.

As Obasanjo clocks 89 on the 5th of March, political allies and admirers across Nigeria have continued to send goodwill messages. They are praising his contributions to national development and democratic consolidation.
