Explore the significance of signs and wonders as described in Isaiah 8:18. Discover how they show God’s power in our lives.
Isaiah 8:18 “Behold, I and the children whom the Lord hath given me are for signs and wonders in Israel. These are from the Lord of hosts, who dwelleth in Mount Zion”.
The verse implies a spiritual inheritance. God’s connection with a person or family leads to a life filled with wonders. ‘Signs’ refers to indications or omens that point to God’s hand at work. ‘Wonders’ indicates something that causes amazement, astonishment, or awe, suggesting a miraculous or extraordinary event. Believers often declare this verse to affirm their faith. They believe that they and their children will be used by God to do great things. They aim to bring glory to Him.
It prophetically speaks to us about the New Year 2026. It proclaims that we shall live lives that are a testimony to God’s miraculous power. It also declares that many wonders will occur in our families, the nation, and the world.
We must excite notice and attention in beholders. We must also provoke consideration in them. Our aim is to cause them to wonder by seeing the miracles of God in our lives. Things earlier thought impossible will become ordinary occurrences by the power of God in our lives.
As we enter this New Year, I will urge us by the Spirit of the Lord. Remember not the former things. Do not consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” (Isaiah 43:18-19). Forget the challenges of the past. It’s a new day, a new dawn and the Lord will do great things SIGNS & WONDERS! What God will do for us, with us and through us this year will blow the minds of many.
“I and the children are for signs and wonders” refers to Isaiah 8:18. This verse is from the Bible. In it, the prophet Isaiah declares that he and the children God gave him are for signs and wonders. This means they are a visible testament to God’s presence. They are also a source of amazement or astonishment for others. God’s children are meant to be a living demonstration of His power and do bring about miraculous events.
I rarely refer to anyone as my son or daughter in the Lord. This is despite having brought thousands to the saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus. But I can’t escape the prophetic reality of this scripture. “I and the children whom the Lord has given me”. It is important to know those to whom the promise has being made. “I and the children whom the Lord has given me”. Are you in the number? If you are, I encourage you to also allow it trickle down to you and your children biological and spiritual! “I and the children whom the Lord has given me”. I am excited.
What a joy to be able to have a peep into the New Year before it unfolds! It gives such joy and confidence. Expect to see and walk in the miraculous this year. And the prophet invites the world to behold! It is not a secret. It can not be hidden. “When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, We were like them that dream. Then was our mouth filled with laughter. Our tongue was filled with singing. Then they said among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them. The LORD hath done great things for us; Whereof we are glad. Turn again our captivity, O LORD, As the streams in the south. They that sow in tears Shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him”. Psalm 126:1-6.
“But this is what the LORD says: “Yes, captives will be taken from warriors, and plunder retrieved from the fierce. I will contend with those who contend with you, and your children I will save.
I will make your oppressors eat their own flesh; they will be drunk on their own blood, as with wine”. (Isaiah 49:25-26). Alleluia! I particularly like the way the Almighty God describes Himself in the scripture for the year 2026.
“The Lord of Hosts who dwells in Mount Zion”. Every bible student knows that God has many names describing his character and power. This particular name refers to him as the Captain of our Salvation. It also calls him the Man of war, the mighty man in battle, the Elshaddi, and the Lord of Hosts! Whenever you see the term ‘the Lord of Hosts,’ recognize it indicates a war situation. The Lord God takes charge and provides the victory.
And then he gives a location to the performance of the signs and wonders. For Isaiah, it was in Israel. It was not in one hidden foreign nation. Instead, it was publicly in his own country among his own people. Okay you get the message now. In the very ‘presence of your enemies’, among those who know your story, among those who wrote you off! I like the way God does his things. I think he likes showing off with us! ‘A city set on a hill cannot be hidden’.
“I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth. I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain. I the LORD speak righteousness. I declare things that are right”. (Isaiah 45:19). God states that He does not communicate in a hidden or ambiguous way. He declares what is true and right openly.
The verse emphasizes that God’s messages are clear and truthful. They are not meant to be sought in vain or in obscurity. Rather, He speaks righteousness and reveals what is just. I know that whatever God does shall be forever. Nothing can be added to it. Nothing can be taken from it. God does it so that men should fear before Him. (Eccl 3:14)
Memorise this scripture. Repeat it to yourself every day of 2026. You certainly will see a manifestation. “Behold, I and the children whom the Lord hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel. These come from the Lord of hosts, who dwelleth in Mount Zion.” (Isaiah 8:18). Luke 1 :45 assures us. “And blessed is she that believed.” There shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
